Adding European Rhinestones To Your Wedding Dress

One of the hottest new trends in wedding gowns, veils, centerpieces and bridal bouquets is adding crystals also known as rhinestones. Are you looking to add a little sparkle to your wedding? Adding rhinestones to a wedding dress and veil is a great way to add a little glamour to your wedding. Just imagine walking down the aisle, all eyes are on the bride. The rhinestones catch the light as she walks and sparkle like diamonds.

Adding genuine European crystal rhinestones is a great way to take a very simple dress and transform it into something special. Designing the layout and pattern of the crystals yourself will guarantee that your gown reflects your personality and is one of a kind. Adding rhinestones is fairly simple to do yourself, but if you aren’t confident in your sewing skills or you simply don’t have time you can hire a professional seamstress to do it for you.

There are basically two ways that you can attach the rhinestones to your gown. The first is by hand sewing them on one by one. If you can sew on a button, you can sew on a rhinestone. Be cautious and do the lay-out first. Make sure you are satisfied with your design. Take photographs for reference once you’ve decided upon your design. You are committed once you put needle to fabric. The needle and thread will leave a permanent mark. Make sure that you are using a brand new needle and that you take your time. The specialty fabrics that most wedding dresses are made of are very delicate and it is easy to cause picks and runs with a dull needle or one that has tiny burrs on it. Before you begin sewing make sure your hands are very clean. The natural oils in your skin can leave marks on some fabrics.

The second way to attach rhinestone crystals to your wedding gown is with glue. If you purchase flat back crystal rhinestones, it is possible to glue them on to your dress with E-6000 specialty glue that can be purchased at craft stores. Be aware that the glue will probably not hold the rhinestones on during long-term storage and may cause discoloration of the fabric over time.

If you are unsure about permanently altering your dress by adding rhinestones, consider adding an intricate crystal design to a sash or a piece of lace added on to the bodice of the gown. A row of rhinestone crystals along the border of the neckline can highlight your face or that same row of crystals lining the train of a dress can put emphasis on that area. Does your dress have beading or lace already in place? Consider highlighting beautiful beadwork by adding rhinestones in strategic places in the design. A lace flower could be embellished by adding a crystal to the center.

A few tiny rhinestone crystals scattered randomly throughout the sheer fabric of your veil is a stunning look. You can add crystals to a comb or headpiece on your veil for a little bling around your face. Adding a row of crystals to the edge of a veil just to frame your face will add that special little shine in that area.

European rhinestones come in many colors, not just clear. A few strategically placed colored rhinestones mixed in with clear crystals on an all-white gown can be absolutely stunning, and can pick up on the colors of your flowers, your bridesmaid dresses, your birthstone colors or your signature color.

Whether you opt for a simple gown and veil with just a few carefully chosen rhinestones to add a little shine or go all out for a Hollywood-style bling, your wedding dress is certain to be a one of a kind masterpiece with European rhinestones.
